Now I Can Therapy Schedule

Summer has been a busy and rewarding time at Now I Can.  Many children have taken advantage of the summer vacation to grow in their strength, stability, balance, confidence—and even some dancing skills!  Although summer is coming to a close, please remember that Now I Can is here any time of the year to help with your independence goals. For an intensive or maintenance schedule, give us a call at 801.228.1935.  The 2010 schedule will soon be posted on our website at www.nowican.org.

Fundraising

Now I Can is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping children gain their greatest level of independence.  We are seeking donations and grants from individuals and groups who want to give—and to receive the assurance that their dollars are going exactly where they think they are—to the children.  Donations are given to the Ability Scholarship Fund to help families pay for physical therapy.  This form can be found at www.nowican.org.

Now I Can is holding our second annual benefit concert starring Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband and Firefly—with comedian and radio personality Keith Stubbs as master of ceremonies!  We’re looking forward to this fun family event on September 11 at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre.  Tickets are $15 or a family pack of 4 is only $45!  Call 801.228.1935.

Family Fundraising

The founders of Now I Can know firsthand what it’s like to scrimp and save for an intensive therapy session.  The Christensens sold 10,000 Christmas cards one year to pay for their daughter’s therapy.  Recently at Now I Can we’ve heard of families who are doing all they can to provide the best treatment for their child—golf tournaments, donations from church and family members, runs, selling items, and other creative fundraising is going on out there!  Thank you for the inspiration you are, and we wish you the best in your endeavors.  It is possible—and it always renews our faith in humanity to see that people really are generous and love to help.

or your child.

Why intensive therapy?

While some wonder if intensive therapy is really worth it, or what the benefits could be, here are the words of a parent whose child visited Now I Can this summer.

We have travelled out of state six times to take our son to 3 or 4 week sessions of intensive therapy and suit therapy.  Despite considerable personal expense and time sacrifices, we look forward to these trips because he makes progress every time he goes through a session of intensive therapy...Read  more

Home Exercise Programs

As therapists, we often stress the importance of Home Exercise Programs (HEP) to maintain progression and make additional improvements in a child's ability to perform activities and flexibility.  I have learned with my own experience that it is a challenge to stick with a HEP.  I, however, have recognized even more the importance of a HEP than ever before.  I have a son who has received physical therapy and is currently receiving occupational therapy and speech therapy.  Once a month the therapists are giving me assignments to help my sone improve with fine motor skills and speaking.  How easy it is to set my assignment aside and forget about it all month.  Life is busy.  But it shouldn't be busier than the quality of life of children receive.
